- OIT Meeting Summary
- UA data center in Gordon Palmer has an aging power system that limits growth. Planning to add more power and redundant power.
- The UA HPC is moving out of Gordon Palmer to Ridgecrest, where there would be more power to manage the existing HPC and install the new HPC they are getting from a recent NSF CC* grant.
In the future, plan to have a hybrid HPC model that uses on campus facility with cloud services (GovCloud). OIT will prepare a description that faculty could use in grant applications.
UA online directory is moving behind authentication soon. Access for people on campus (VPN) is a possibility that will be looked at. - Below are ways that instructors can control media downloads for the various tools supported by UA:
- Collaborate Ultra: Check box to “Allow recording downloads” for a student to download a Collaborate Ultra session.
- Box: Use collaborator permission “previewer.” Use a Shared Link and set link access to be “Can View Only.” In Link Settings, you can also verify that the “Allow Download” option is not selected.
- Panopto: Video downloads are not enabled for students (viewers) by default. You can see/change this in the video’s settings, on the Overview tab.
- Blackboard: Instructors can’t prevent download of files.
- VoiceThread: Options for each video (or default for all) to control: Allow others to download original media; Allow others to export; Allow others to make a copy. These options can be turned off.
- Zoom: Many control and security options:
· During a meeting, a host can disable participants’ recording.
· Host must share the recording link (if they want to share it).
· Host can upload the video to Panopto within Blackboard.
