Description: The Faculty Senate embraces that “processes guiding all important decisions that shape the University’s educational potential and that allocate its resources are the joint responsibility of faculty and administrators” (Faculty Handbook Chapter 1. Section IV). The Faculty Senate Excellence in Shared Governance Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to advancing shared governance at The University of Alabama. The award honors meaningful contributions that strengthen faculty participation in university decision-making, foster collaboration among faculty and administration, and advance the principles of shared governance.
Eligibility: Eligible nominees may include faculty, administrators, staff, or other members of the University community. Nominees need not be current or former members of the Faculty Senate.
Award: One individual will be recognized each Spring for their contributions to shared governance at The University of Alabama.

Self-nominations are not welcome.
Selection: Nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee. The committee will evaluate nominees and recommend a recipient to the Faculty Senate for a vote of approval.
